Two years ago, the people of Boston, the U.S., and the world joined in solidarity following the terrible events at the Boston Marathon—a tragedy that directly affected many members of the Northeastern family.  Amid the horror of that day, our university community drew together in so many remarkable ways—to care for the injured at the finish line, to aid those who needed support, and to comfort one another in our sorrow.

As we mark the anniversary of that day and honor the victims and heroes, let us recall once more the bonds that sustained us then—and that will always undergird our character as a university, as Bostonians, and as members of the human family.

Today, Northeastern stands together again in unity, and we’ll do so once more on April 20th, when more than 100 women and men from our community will take to the marathon route and finish line to provide nursing services, physical therapy, wheelchair assistance—and, of course, to run the race.

Today, on Marathon Monday, and every day, may our thoughts and deeds affirm that community is the root of our strength, the wellspring of our healing—and the source of a resilience that forever endures.

Sincerely,

Joseph E. Aoun
