The Class of 2010
Who Are They? They came to Northeastern from across the nation and all over the world. They worked and traveled, studied and served on the Northeastern campus and around the globe. They have excelled in engineering and health, in finance and literature, in communication and architecture, in athletics and service, in nursing and the creative arts. They have started businesses and begun advanced degrees.
Where are they headed? Everywhere.
They are entering a wide range of highly competitive graduate programs. Kareem Ghobrial is headed to Harvard Business School, and Jeffrey Cumplido is going to Tufts Medical School. Molly Candon will pursue a PhD in economics at the University of Georgia. Selena Rice will attend Johns Hopkins for a PhD in biology. Philip Hamzik will go to MIT, and Michael Fuccillo will attend Princeton, each to earn a PhD in chemistry.
They are committed to the public good. Elizabeth Erratt is joining Teach for America. While pursuing a master’s in public health at Northeastern, Caitlin Kreitman will manage an autism research initiative at Children’s Hospital Boston.
They will join the private sector, many with opportunities that evolved from co-op. Josh Trautwein will continue to run Soccer 1, the business he founded, which uses soccer to strengthen communities and change lives. He spent spring break in Haiti creating soccer programs at three orphanages. Engineer Jen Hardy and communications major Lucy Properzio will join Raytheon as members of its Leadership Rotation Program.
They are dedicated to the creative arts. Nani Stoick is going to work in New York City for Vector Management, an artist-management firm in the music industry, and Sean McDermott will be recording, writing, and performing with the band Red Bellows. Nikki Rafala is heading to the Hartt School of Music, and Jasmine Hagans will do graduate work at the University of Chicago through an interdisciplinary program in music and culture.
They will span the globe. Tom Cinq-Mars, a student of history and Spanish, earned a Critical Language Scholarship from the U.S. State Department and will go to Russia for a language immersion program. Before beginning law school, Brendan Rigby will work at St. Andrew’s Refugee Services in Egypt.
Who are they? They are just a few of the inspirational members of the class of 2010 who have taken risks, embraced change and challenges, left their comfort zones, and tackled the unknown. They embody the best of Northeastern. In less than a month’s time, we will gather to celebrate every member of the class of 2010. I look forward to being with the entire class at Commencement on May 7.
