The beginning of a new academic year brings anticipation and hope. At Northeastern, tragically, we must pause and reflect on the death of one of our own. Jayant Goswami, a graduate student in the College of Computer and Information Science, died unexpectedly Friday at his Boston home.

No mere words can express the sorrow and pain of Jayant’s family and friends – indeed, of all his colleagues at CCIS, whether students, faculty or staff. A young man full of promise and eager to share in the creation and dissemination of cutting-edge science has been taken from us.

This reminds us yet again how precious life is and how precarious it can be. We mourn the death of a member of our community, and turn to one another to draw comfort and to renew our hope.
